About Us

Established in 1991 by Wayne Mills in New Zealand and in 2012 by Nicole Deans in Australia, Kids Lit Quiz is the ultimate sport of reading!

What we do

The Kids' Lit Quiz is an annual literature quiz for students aged 10 - 13 years.

Quizzes are held in Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand.

The winning team from each heat competes in a National Final. National champions compete in the World Final.

The quiz was founded by New Zealand quizmaster Wayne Mills, who reads enough books to write several thousand questions each year.

Our Journey

Kids Lit Quiz Australia started in 2012 and is the initiate of Nicole Deans, our National Co-ordinator, who read about the quiz in a journal and thought “that ticks all the boxes” for her. Since starting with one heat that was also the final, and only 13 teams, it has grown through NSW, QLD, ACT, Victoria and South Australia with a total of 15 heats and over 300 teams! With the National final held in Sydney at the State Library there is plenty of opportunity to get involved.

Kids' Lit Quiz Australia is run by volunteers and is not for profit. KLQA relies on generous sponsorship and team fees to provide prizes and costs.
